Jean Lauliac bfc0e8c26f packager: add preprocess for buck worker
Summary: For the Buck integration (work-in-progress), we want to add the ability to do some custom preprocessing similar to the packager server. The signature is different so I prefer to have a separate function for that. Also we don't need the transform options right now, I suggest we don't add them for now and add them later if necessary.

eacaps e53046b9ec pass polyfillModuleNames into packager
Summary:
After examining how React Native sets up `process.env.NODE_ENV` using `global.__DEV__` from `prelude_dev.js` or `prelude.js` by treating them like polyfills I decided to use the same approach for environment variables. I setup my own rn-project.config.js file like so:

```
const blacklist = require('react-native/packager/blacklist');
const pathJoin = require('path').join;
module.exports = {
  getBlacklistRE: function() {
    return blacklist([/build\/.*/, /app\/assets\/webpack.*/]);
  },
  polyfillModuleNames: [pathJoin(__dirname, 'globals.js')]
};
```

I ran the packaging server using:
`react-native start --config=config/react-native/rn-project.config.js --reset-cache`

I expected my polyfillModuleNames to be passed into the Packager properly and be handled the same way the built-in polyfills worked. Unfortunately I noticed the Packager wasn't actually getting `opt.polyfillModuleNames`. Digging into the code a bit, it seems the local-cli wasn't passing the polyfillModuleNames from the config.

There are no specs for runServer.js but this change can be tested by using a config that contains polyfillModuleNames. Sample config and run command provided above simple `global.js` provided below:

```
global.process = global.process ? global.process : {};
global.process.env = global.process.env ? global.process.env : {};
global.process.env['PROJECT_ENV'] = 'staging';
```

`declareOpts` prevents strong Flow typing, and promotes default values, that may be different from a function to another (my goal is to remove defaults from the whole codebase except perhaps the public API). This changeset replaces it by Flow types and fixes callsites to be explicit on values.

Summary:
The cli arg `--scheme` allows you to override the inferred scheme.
The runOnDevice command takes this override into account, but run-ios

Thanks for submitting a PR! Please read these instructions carefully:

- [x] Explain the **motivation** for making this change.
- [x] Provide a **test plan** demonstrating that the code is solid.
- [x] Match the **code formatting** of the rest of the codebase.
- [x] Target the `master` branch, NOT a "stable" branch.

Currently if a custom scheme is specified, `run-ios` will fail with the following message

```
Error: Command failed: /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print:CFBundleIdentifier build/Build/Products/Debug-iphonesimulator/AwesomeProject.app/Info.plist
Print: Entry, ":CFBundleIdentifier", Does Not Exist
I have been working on integrating React Native into an existing app and realised that the source folder for android code is currently hardcoded as `app`. Being a legacy codebase we can't really change that. So I wanted to be able to customise this folder name so that I can integrate RN seamlessly and start it from the CLI without having to run it from Android Studio.
- `react-native run-android` works successfully
Vojtech Novak cd4545f812 configurable devEnabled in React.gradle
Summary:
This PR adds support for configurable devEnabled option when building an android app. This is currently hardcoded.
The reason for making this configurable is this: I have an app that uses code-push and 3 buildConfigs. I want to have a debugging version which has `devEnabled = true`, then a staging version which has `devEnabled = false` (this version of the app is used internally for testing and should behave just like a release version of the app, and when the tests succeed the changes are promoted into the release version to the users out there, using code-push). The last version is a standard release version with `devEnabled = false`.
Currently, `devEnabled` is hardwired like this: `!targetName.toLowerCase().contains("release")` so by default my `staging` buildConfig will have `devEnabled = true` but I'd like it to be false.
With this PR it'd be possible to configure this as follows, while not breaking the current behavior.
`'devDisabledIn${productFlavor}${buildType}'`
`'devDisabledIn${buildType
Jean Lauliac 8755338728 packager: get rid of type `any` in ResolutionRequest
Summary:
One of my changeset broke the "ModuleGraph" code without warning earlier because we are using `any`, that equivalent to having no typing at all. This changeset fixes the types so that `ResolutionRequest` is exactly what it actually is: a class usable for any `Module`-looking class, including the normal one, and the "ModuleGraph" one used for Buck builds. That way, the ModuleGraph's `Module` is typechecked against `Moduleish`.
Concretely this change mostly migrates the `Module` to its generic parameter counterpart `TModule` inside `ResolutionRequest`.
Brent Vatne 5f5da4e122 Add support for custom log reporter cli option for local server
Summary:
In Expo tools such as XDE, exp we listen listen to stdout from the packager process and print it in our own buffer. In the case of XDE, an electron app, our log pane is DOM-based, and before printing each log chunk we need to remove special tty characters and sometimes parse it to get information that we need (eg: progress bar). By using a custom reporter, we can take the raw events and pass them along in a format that is easy to consume by XDE and exp. This same motivation applies to create-react-native-app, where we currently don't show a progress bar in the terminal, but we can with this change.
Create `LogReporter.js` in the root of a project with the CLI changes included in this PR.
```
class LogReporter {
  update(event) {
    console.log(JSON.stringify(event));

Benjamin Eckel 140c5f657c Make run-ios --device example copy-pastable
Summary:
This changes the single quotes to double quotes so this command can be copy-pasted.

If a user copy pastes the run-on-device example in bash they will be presented with a confusing prompt because bash expects another terminating single quote.

```
~ben (master *) ~/code/transit: react-native run-ios --device 'Max's iPhone'
>
>
```

It seems minor but this could be just confusing enough to frustrate a beginner or someone not familiar with bash.

This can be tested by running:

```
react-native run-ios --help
```

and verifying that the "run on device" example is changed:

```diff
- react-native run-ios --device 'Max's iPhone'
+ react-native run-ios --device "Max's iPhone"
jrodiger f891985bd8 Update runAndroid.js to fix startServerInNewWindow() (Windows)
Summary:
**Motivation**
Resolves issue: #12367. The issue is that the packager does not launch automatically on Windows when running `react-native run-android` like it does on OSX. The proposed change fixes this issue, and causes the packager to be launched automatically on Windows 10. Also note the updated code uses the syntax described in the [Node.js documentation](https://nodejs.org/api/all.html#child_process_spawning_bat_and_cmd_files_on_windows) on spawning .bat files on Windows.
**Test plan**
Manually tested on Windows 10.
Running just `react-native run-android` now results in the packager launching, without needing to run `react-native start` in a new command prompt window.
Jean Lauliac 4203c9c837 packager: fix buildBundle() options
Summary: The problem with `bundleOpts` is that it discards Flow typing, so it prevents reinforcing the integration of `Bundler` into `Server`. This changeset removes the `bundleOpts` to solve that issues. Instead, it makes the options explicit so that there is less uncertaintly. I love making options explicit, because they force callsites to take a consicious decision about what is really needed, making them more robust. They also expose oddities that probably needs refatoring, for example having a `resolutionRequest` in the bundle options does not seem correct, it should be an implementation details. Likewise, `onProgress` should probably be exposed differently, as it does not affect the content of the bundle itself.
https://github.com/mkonicek/AppTemplateFeedback/issues/1
I published a sample template [react-native-template-demo](https://www.npmjs.com/package/react-native-template-demo).
(GitHub: https://github.com/mkonicek/react-native-template-demo)
With this PR anyone can then use that template:
`react-native init MyApp --template demo`
The convention is: if someone publishes an npm package called `react-native-template-foo`, people can use it by running `react-native init MyApp --template foo`.
Use a template called `react-native-template-demo` from npm:
`react-native init MyApp --template demo`
Use a local template:
`react-native init MyApp --template file:///path_to/react-native-template-dem
Summary:
The way React DevTools integration was set up in RN was not entirely supported by the React team, and we had to disable it in c3b25c9059 so that we can move forward with enabling Fiber support in React Native.
Here, I am moving the DevTools client setup from RN repo to [React DevTools repo](https://github.com/facebook/react-devtools/blob/master/packages/react-devtools-core/README.md#requirereact-devtools-coreconnecttodevtoolsoptions) so that we can keep it in sync with the rest of React DevTools. This is also a part of a larger effort to consolidate DevTools code (https://github.com/facebook/react-devtools/issues/489). It allows us to remove the double injection of the hook, an lets us replace the `eval` hack with a regular dependency. The implementation [lives here now](https://github.com/facebook/react-devtools/blob/master/packages/react-devtools-core/src/backend.js).
Martin Konicek a54d449e94 CLI: Add support for project templates
Summary:
Currently it is not trivial for people to get started with React Native. `react-native init MyApp` just creates a simple app with a single screen. People have to spend time figuring out how to add more screens, or how to accomplish very basic tasks such as rendering a list of data or handling text input.
Let's add an option: `react-native init --template navigation` - this creates a "starter" app which can be easily tweaked into the actual app the person wants to build.
Eric Vicenti bc74dd1e14 Eject CLI command to re-create native folders
Summary:
The iOS and Android native folders of a React Native app can be difficult to maintain. This introduces a new workflow for creating and maintaining the native code of your app.
Now it will be possible to:
1. Remove the native iOS or Android folders
2. Create an `app.json` for your app, with at least a `name` and `displayName`
3. Run `react-native eject`, and the native code for your app will be generated
Then, as usual, you can run `react-native run-ios` and `react-native run-android`, to build and launch your app
For apps that don't have any native code, it will be possible to ignore the `ios` and `android` folders from version control.
Eject step tested in RN app by deleting native folders.
mkonicek, what is the best way to test `react-native init`?
As follow-up items, we can enable the following:
- Configuring app icon and launch screen from the `app.json`
- Automatically run `react-native link` for native libraries
Harshil Shah bce6ece5f6 Add symlinks under node_modules as part of projectRoots
Summary:
Support symlinks under `node_modules` for all local-cli commands. PR https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/9009 only adds symlink support to the packager.
But other cli commands like `react-native bundle` creates its own instance of packager that doesn't have symlinks as part of its project roots, which results in the bundler breaking since it cannot find modules that you have symlinked.
This change ensures all `local-cli` commands add symlinks to its project roots.
rh389 e0c3d56d3a Fix template release build: Add -ObjC and -lc++ to tests target
Summary:
Fixes https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/11861 - the release config is currently broken for projects created by `react-native init` in `master`, 0.40 and 0.39.
I'm still investigating when and how this got broken but this seems to be a clean fix. I've added `-ObjC` as well to match the main target but I'm not sure yet whether that's necessary.
To test:
```
react-native init fooproject --version react-native@rh389/react-native#missinglinkerflags
```
Open in XCode, Edit scheme (⌘<), Change `Build Configuration` to `Release`, build.
Update: The `-lc++` flag became necessary when 33deaad196 landed because of the libstdc++ dependencies of `RCTLog`. Still not sure about `-ObjC`. javache ?
David Aurelio 0849f84df2 create better debuggable source maps
Summary:
Introduces a new mechanism to build source maps that allows us to use real mapping segments instead of just mapping line-by-line.
This mechanism is only used when building development bundles to improve the debugging experience in Chrome.
The new mechanism takes advantage of a new feature in babel-generator that exposes raw mapping objects. These raw mapping objects are converted to arrays with 2, 4, or 5 for the most compact representation possible.
We no longer generate a source map for the bundle that maps each line to itself in conjunction with configuring babel generator to retain lines.
Instead, we create a source map with a large mappings object produced from the mappings of each individual file in conjunction with a “carry over” – the number of preceding lines in the bundle.
The implementation makes a couple of assumptions that hold true for babel transform results, e.g. mappings being in the order of the generated code, and that a block of mappings always belongs to the same source file. In addition, the implementation avoids allocation of objects and strings at all costs. All calculations are purely numeric, and base64 vlq produces numeric ascii character codes. These are written to a preallocated buffer objects, which is turned to a string only at the end of the building process. This implementation is ~5x faster than using the source-map library.
In addition to providing development source maps that work better, we can now also produce individual high-quality source maps for production builds and combine them to an “index source map”. This approach is unfeasable for development source maps, because index source map consistently crash Chrome.
Better production source maps are useful to get precise information about source location and symbol names when symbolicating stack traces from crashes in production.
Mike Grabowski 30e89b49f1 Merge `rnpm config` with the `cli config`, step 1
Summary:
This is step one on merging the `rnpm` config with the `cli config`. The plan is to remove two sources of truth (rnpm package.json config and rn-cli Javascript config)
Rationale:
As of now, we have `rnpm` config, that used to live in the `local-cli/core/config/index.js` and the `rn-cli` config, living in `default.config.js` and `utils/Config.js`.
This PR moves all the things into one file, called `local-cli/core', simplifies things, enhances types (Config now has better types, added missing properties and fixed descriptions).
One notable addition is that users can now opt-in to override the commands that are loaded at the package level. Previously it was only possible to add a command by writing a plugin. Now, you can just tweak the `rn-cli.config.js`.
This is one of the several improvements I have on my roadmap, with better documentation for the CLI as well.
joaogranado 52dea5db64 Add no-packager option to run-android and run-ios commands
Summary:
Currently, while running `react-native run-android` command, React Native's packager is launched, and there is not any way to disable the current behaviour. This is handled somehow on iOS by adding an environment variable `RCT_NO_LAUNCH_PACKAGER` (see #6180).
This is a cross-platform solution that adds the `--no-packager` option both to `run-ios` and `run-android`, which prevents the packager from being launched.
This was tested by building with and without the option, on both environments (Android and iOS) using the device and simulator, working as expected.
Steve Kellock f49093f397 Fixes launching Visual Studio Code due to args being a nested array.
Summary:
**Motivation**
Visual Studio Code appears to have been accidentally borked in RN 38 & 39.
[Here you see](a643784144 (diff-9ad1aafc931637a94d74b60c06b46871R153)) args become an array to support the new `shell-quote` support.
Problem is, `getArgumentsForLineNumber` also returns an array.
[And because we](a643784144 (diff-9ad1aafc931637a94d74b60c06b46871R161)) `push` instead of `concat`, we get hawt array-on-array action.
Summary:
At the moment the run-android command from the react-native cli does run all available devices at once. However it would be extreme useful to have the option to choose only one specific device/simulator.
Therefore i've created a new flag for the command 'run-android': --deviceIdFromList 'deviceIdFromList' in order
Linking 3rd party libraries should be supported first, because then I'd like to do a follow up PR with grabbou to identify how we can effectively move RNPM functionality out of react-native core and eventually housed in each external platform's repo.  The goal would be working with cpojer and hopefully andrewimm to help keep external platform needs in their respective repos, for rnpm/packager _et al._  Seeing as this is a major discussion point, I've made this PR first. Eric Palakovich Carr 38d275f8b5 Red Box should open PyCharm at line number of error
Summary:
This is a simple one line change.  When a red box is launching the editor, if `launchEditor.js` is aware of your editor it can also add a line number to open the file at.  So if the stacktrace shows an error on like 56 in `ako.js` then it'll try`wstorm /Users/somelady/src/project/ako.js:56` instead of `wstorm /Users/somelady/src/project/ako.js`.
This adds PyCharm's command line launcher, which is named `charm`.  There is existing logic to handle other JetBrains editors, so I just did a simple one line addition.
**Test plan (required)**
* Install PyCharm (if needed)
* Set environment variable `REACT_EDITOR` to `charm`
* Open PyCharm
* Add/replace the current `charm` command via `Tools -> Create Command-line launcher...` in PyCharm.
Summary:
Xcode really sucks, per some discussion on e1577df1fd and https://developer.apple.com/library/content/technotes/tn2215/_index.html, if you use the headers phase, and mark headers in your static library as public, they will actually end up in the final package that's built and you can't submit to the app store! This changes our xcode setup to use a copy files phase instead.
I've also changed the header include path to be $(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR)/include, which is added to the include path by Xcode by default, so 3rd party libraries should not be impacted by these changes anymore.
Richard Evans 0b5ff0d2b1 Make run-ios find if a device is booted better
Summary:
**Motivation**
This morning I was trying to test on iPhone 7 with iOS 10 so I booted that device and ran "react-native run-ios" expecting it to notice I had a simulator running and install my app to it. Instead it switched my device to the iPhone 6s iOS 9.2. After digging it was found that run-ios did not handle multiple versions of iOS being installed very well when it came to checking for the booted device. This PR resolves that.
**Test plan (required)**
Tests were added for the situation of multiple iOS versions being installed and a slight change to the code was completed to make the new tests pass and continue to keep the old tests passing.
Christoph Pojer 6554ad5983 Kill fastfs
Summary:
This kills fastfs in favor of Jest's hasteFS. It gets rid of a ton of code, including the mocking code in ResolutionRequest which we don't need any more. Next step after this is to rewrite HasteMap, ModuleCache, Module/Package. We are getting closer to a nicer and faster world! :)
Here is what I did:
* Use Jest's HasteFS instead of fastfs. A fresh instance is received every time something changes on the FS.
* HasteFS is not shared with everything any more. Only one reference is kept in DependencyGraph and there are a few smaller functions that are passed around (getClosestPackage and dirExists). Note: `dirExists` now does fs access instead of an offline check. This sucks but stat calls aren't slow and aren't going to be a bottleneck in ResolutionRequest, I promise! When it is time to tackle a ResolutionRequest rewrite with jest-resolve, this will go away. "It gets worse before it gets better" :) The ModuleGraph equivalent does *not* do fs access and retains the previous way of doing things because we shouldn't do online fs access there.
* Add flow annotations to ResolutionRequest. This required a few tiny hacks for now because of ModuleGraph's duck typing. I'll get rid of this soon.
* Updated ModuleGraph to work with the new code, also created a mock HasteFS instance there.
* I fixed a few tiny mock issues for `fs` to make the tests work; I had to add one tiny little internal update to `dgraph._hasteFS._files` because the file watching in the tests isn't real. It is instrumented through some function calls, therefore the hasteFS instance doesn't get automatically updated. One way to solve this is to add `JestHasteMap.emit('change', …)` for testing but I didn't want to cut a Jest release just for that. #movefast
(Note: I will likely land this in 1.5 weeks from now after my vacation and I have yet to fully test all the product flows. Please give me feedback so I can make sure this is solid!)
Nicolas Cuillery 7d89b773a7 New upgrading process, relying on Git
Summary:
The upgrading process based on Yeoman is a pain. For each file, Yeoman (or the brand new copyAndReplace solution a477aec) compares the newly generated content with the existing one and prompts the user if it differs, with very basic options: overwrite or skip.
I have digged into this problem and came with [rn-diff](https://github.com/ncuillery/rn-diff) (you may have read [this article](https://medium.com/ncuillery/easier-react-native-upgrades-with-rn-diff-5020b5c3de2d#.llvy2dym5)). This repository helps people to upgrade RN on their projects. An alternative upgrading process using `git apply` instead of Yeoman is described [here](https://github.com/ncuillery/rn-diff/blob/master/USAGE.md).
This PR is the integration of this process into the core. I got rid of the drawbacks mentioned in the link below in order to make it a clean, elegant, one-step operation.
David Aurelio 8ad2ab3b5e BREAKING: expose `getTransformOptions` directly in configuration
Summary:
Instead of exposing a `getTransformOptionsModulePath` function in configurations, we can simply expose a `getTransformOptions` *function*. The necessity of exposing a path comes from the olden days, where we had a server listening on a socket, and a client, talking to that server.
Since that architectural gem no longer exists, we can use functions directly, rather than passing paths to modules around.
Pieter De Baets e1577df1fd Move all header imports to "<React/..>"
Summary:
To make React Native play nicely with our internal build infrastructure we need to properly namespace all of our header includes.
Where previously you could do `#import "RCTBridge.h"`, you must now write this as `#import <React/RCTBridge.h>`. If your xcode project still has a custom header include path, both variants will likely continue to work, but for new projects, we're defaulting the header include path to `$(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR)/usr/local/include`, where the React and CSSLayout targets will copy a subset of headers too. To make Xcode copy headers phase work properly, you may need to add React as an explicit dependency to your app's scheme and disable "parallelize build".
Martin Konicek 3aa25f7917 Allow git to merge pbxproj files
Summary:
Follow on in https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/10864.
**Motivation**
ncuillery Is has a lot of experience with upgrading RN projects (see his [talk](http://www.slideshare.net/ncuillery/introducing-the-new-reactnative-upgrade)) and is rewriting 'react-native upgrade' to use git.
He tells me that we actually want git to merge changes in the .pbxproj file. In his words: "Making the project.pbxproj invisible for "git diff" means that react-native-git-upgrade will never be able to upgrade the project.pbxproj."
Note the git docs explicitly recommend not to use git to merge .pbxproj files: https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Customizing-Git-Git-Attributes#Binary-Files
ncuillery do we have an alternative? Some ideas:
1. Use a 3rd-party tool in 'react-native upgrade' to merge the .pbxproj file?
2. We could always re-generate and overwrite the .pbxproj file (never merge) and then run 'react-native link' to update native 3rd-party dependencies in the Xcode project?
3. Last resort: stay away
Christoph Pojer a9338d6af1 New file watching implementation
Summary:
This is the next incremental step to rewrite node-haste. I apologize for the size of this diff but there is really no smaller way to do this. The current architecture passes a single file watcher instance into many classes that each subscribe to file changes. It's really hard to keep track of this. The new implementation reduces the listeners to two (will eventually be just one!) - one in DependencyGraph and one in it's parent's parent's parent (ugh! This doesn't make any sense). This should make it much more straightforward to understand what happens when a file changes.
I was able to remove a bunch of tests because jest's watcher takes care of things like ignore patterns. Some of the tests were specifically testing for whether the change events were invoked and they are now much more straightforward as well by manually invoking the `processFileChange` methods.
This PR improves the process adding that feature to the `React Native CLI`.
To generate a release build is only required to use the parameter `--configuration` with the value `Release`.
**Examples**
To generate a release build:
```sh
react-native run-android --configuration release
```
To generate a release build for the product flavors staging:
```sh
react-native run-android --configuration release --flavor staging
```
To generate a debug build:
```sh
react-native run-android
```
To generate a debug build for the product flavors staging:
```sh
react-native run-android --flavor staging
```
This PR also removes the option `--install-debug` from the `react-native run-android` because that is always the default value,
Dustin Ingram 07dc35e4ad Add .gitattributes file, treat .pbxproj as binary
Summary:
By default, the `.pbxproj` file generated by React Native should be treated as binary data to prevent Git from possibly automatically converting or fixing CRLF issues with this file, which would break it.
See https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Customizing-Git-Git-Attributes#identifying-binary-files-znTLIVhvhG (where it specifically mentions `.pbxproj` files) for more information.
Sandro Machado ca7cbdee85 Add the scheme configuration option to the run-ios command
Summary:
With the current `run-ios` script it is not possible to create/run iOS release builds or any other kind of scheme configuration from the terminal (we need to use `Xcode`). The reason for this is that the `run-ios` script does not expose the scheme configuration option for the `xcodebuild` command. This PR exposes that property and allows the developers to directly create/run release builds from the terminal.
This PR also closes [this](https://productpains.com/post/react-native/create-ios-release-builds-from-terminal) request at `productpains`.
And answers to [this](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/40303229/run-a-react-native-ios-release-build-from-terminal) question at the `stackoverflow`.
**Test plan (required)**
To generate a release build just run:
``` sh
react-native run-ios --configuration Release
```
The output
``` sh
Found Xcode project App.xcodeproj
Launching iPhone 6 (iOS 9.3)...
Building using "xcodebuild -project App.xcodeproj -scheme App -destination id=B0738993-CE4A-4D
