&gt;2nd type of nodes can't provide same quality of service as 1st. so in order to participate in the network they must share costs of the network usage. but they are interested to pay only such node that can guarantee high quality of service.
&gt; so reputation system will help them to find such service, and after that they will engage
&gt; in the some sort of payment procedure (will be discussed later).
Which I think we can deal as gas price..
When you are synced to ethereum, making a call to blockchain (not send transaction) does not cost ether, but is not "free" - it costs computing resources, and they are measurable by gas, just like send transcation.
Status replaces Infura and start using synced nodes that could read calls from blockchain and answer by whisper to unsynced nodes which pay them for this reads.</div></div></div><br/>

**Focus on: discuss and decisions about future, as opposed to things in the past**
### Part 1 - Hot topics
**1. Light clients: LES and ULC.**
Context: Currently there's a bit of a disarray w.r.t these efforts - it isn't clear who or what team is owning it or what our deliverables are. Having 10% of users use LES/ULC in app is a p0/p0 OKR, so we need to be clear about what we are doing here, both on a short and longer time scale.
Goal: Discuss approach, reach consensus on way forward, and decide who is leading what focus.

- <a href="https://github.com/status-im/ideas/pull/295">https://github.com/status-im/ideas/pull/295</a>
**2. Desktop/Mobile mobile code sharing and automated testing.**
Context: We've recently started sharing code base between desktop/mobile, and there are some childhood illness issues related to this.
Goal: Discuss and outline next steps.
**3. Hardware wallet (Javacard, light)**
Context: We want to support hardwallet for Devcon. This requires a lot of coordination across HW/dev/security/ux. This is not captured in current OKRs or priorities among teams. Additionally, we also have a HW wallet pro.
Goal: Discuss roughly what we need, unknowns, and figure out team and point person to this. Rough timeline. Understand relationship with HW pro wallet.

**4. Security.**
Context: We are starting to take security more seriously with a holistic view and process.
Goal: Discuss pyramid of pain, etc. Understand current dev/org pain points and next steps.
**5. First step towards a DAO. (unconfirmed)**
Context: We want to become a DAO. First steps are around voting dapp, liquid pledging, etc. There's also an experiment with Gitcoin.
### Part 2 - fish net (no specific need expressed)

Also 429 error is shown in console so such solution is spamming GitHub and not acceptable)
-- test maintenance (fixing false failures in tests and reworking tests according to changed features)
Desktop Automation:
The main goal is to replace `Appium Driver` with a desktop driver while all logic and tests written for mobile will be reused for desktop
For PoC we've tried several possible drivers:
-- <a href="http://sikulix.com/quickstart/">http://sikulix.com/quickstart/</a> (not acceptable since it uses image recognition instead of xpath/accessibility ids, which means that we need to keep a screenshot of an element)
-- <a href="http://appium.io/docs/en/drivers/mac/">http://appium.io/docs/en/drivers/mac/</a> (project seems to be dead and not working with latest mac os x versions)
-- <a href="https://github.com/pyatom/pyatom">https://github.com/pyatom/pyatom</a> (also dead project, however it seems that with some contribution we can make this tool alive)
We are going to try another couple of drivers and if they won't work we will make <a href="https://github.com/pyatom/pyatom">https://github.com/pyatom/pyatom</a> alive
Please advice anything, If you have an experience or any knowledge about desktop automation</div></div></div><br/>

Goals: get engineering input; to get people to join the swarm for implementation
Reading: <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IXOyWfx7m3j31GshKPOPXKkLF0-cz_a0hN71TxeWpW8/edit?ts=5b867125">https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IXOyWfx7m3j31GshKPOPXKkLF0-cz_a0hN71TxeWpW8/edit?ts=5b867125</a>
8. Status Desktop must-haves
Context: As we plan on using Status Desktop internally instead of Slack, we need to agree on what features we must have working in order to not have a detrimental impact on team performance.
Goals: Collect a list of features that can be implemented in a reasonable amount of time and will satisfy 90+% of use cases.

i noticed there is a question regarding implementation details. it is in 1186 and 1193 in status-go repository.
1186 is about general connection rate limit with token buckets. limiting is done based on public key identity, and maybe will be moved to ip address after evaluation.
1193 - per topic rate limiting. i will provide my perspective on integration this week. but in short - whisper will be instrumented with per-topic traffic observer. if any topic goes above the limit - client of status-go will be able to notice that. and remove an appropriate topic from their own rate limit.</div></div></div><br/>

there are several issues with that.
there is no real benefit in doing it. we will have to run 2 servers on mobile device. assuming we will be using les at some point.
libp2p server is not instrumented with heartbeats which we can easily tweak. we are heavily relying on those to provide "reliable" writes.
it will make our new network disconnected from old one, unless we implement devp2p&lt;-&gt;libp2p whisper proxy.</div></div></div><br/>

I know there's plenty of stuff to talk about, pinging a few stuff off the top of my head:
- @jakub runbooks / howto respond
- @adamb status node running; mailserver follow up
- swarm pss? @yenda @pedro?
- log based comms actual decision or clear next steps? @arnetheduck.slack
- related to above: swarm mail server mutable name resource for mailserver thing
- push notification server and extensions use case for async stuff? @jeluard @pedro thread re partner integration, has big impact on mail server stuff
- note that several of the ones above here are related, but they can't be properly clustered if we don't take the time to write them up in advance, so they can be merged etc as appropriate
- docs update sup each team? @cryptowanderer maybe?
- OKR @rachel maybe want to bring something re how eng prefer to do this type of thing?
- desktop not sure if something here @chad @vitaliy
It'd be great if we could get some solid discussion on just a few of the ones above, imo</div></div></div><br/>

This is also why i talk about "permissioned permissionlessness". The future that i envision is that authentication happens using status (sic) public key - inside our (d)applications. We start with google 2fa b/c that is what we have NAO, and we integrate as iterations in the ecosystem mature to enable them. We need a place for document creation that is not google, as we move to status desktop, and the ecosystem will need such permissioned tools as well. building and using this with 2fa (for doc creation and editing permissions) is not exclusionary, and in line with our principles.</div></div></div><br/>

We talk the talk of the interplay and tradeoffs between security, authentication, and identity, so we should walk the walk, and build for at least minimum threat models, @oskarth @corey122 , dont you think?
And of course i advocate decentralization and distributed "everything is everywhere but nowhere" information infrastructure, but truth is, we dont have it yet in stable, scaleable, useable form. When we do tjough, we should be ready for it and our data / identity / authentication systems should be portable. Doing this instance of hackMD with 2fa is a challenge to ourselves to implement it with statusbpublic key authentification.
If contributors dont like the current limitation of a domain restricted login with 2fa, they simply dont have to use it, and can continue writing on other instances of hackMD. but for those who do want secure provenance in a limited WOT (status), i dont see why we shouldnt have such an instance.</div></div></div><br/>

I'd imagine this is something we use to collab on various endeavors, but not for official external comms. Anyone should be able to read it, but attribution to edits should also be given if we are using this for _productivity_. We have revisioning as a part of it (so we can roll back whatever we need to), but in the case where people are screwing up the productivity of the tool, they should be handled so we can move forward, or the opposite, contributions should be recognized.
Maybe not limiting to _only_ status people (allowing github or something like that) to edits. Think about the discourse... anyone can read, only logined people can contribute.</div></div></div><br/>
