I had tried fixing a broken link in a previous commit (#11453). My commit was merged, but it did not resolve the underlying problem. I have looked into how links should be formed for the docs and have fixed the original problem as well as updated all other links to be consistent.
Previous link formats:
- /docs/sample.html <-- broken link
- sample.html <-- broken link
- https://facebook.github.io/react-native/docs/sample.html <-- works
- /react-native/docs/sample.html <-- works
- docs/sample.html <-- works (permalink format)
This PR updates all links to the permalink format.

I ran the website locally and manually tested half of the links in each category. They all worked.

Summary:
Android has a text API called breakStrategy for controlling how paragraphs are broken up into lines. For example, some modes support automatically hyphenating words so a word can be split across lines while others do not.
One source of complexity is that Android provides different defaults for `breakStrategy` for `TextView` vs `EditText`. `TextView`'s default is `BREAK_STRATEGY_HIGH_QUALITY` while `EditText`'s default is `BREAK_STRATEGY_SIMPLE`.
In addition to exposing `textBreakStrategy`, this change also fixes a couple of rendering glitches with `Text` and `TextInput`. `TextView` and `EditText` have different default values for `breakStrategy` and `hyphenationFrequency` than `StaticLayout`. Consequently, we were using different parameters for measuring and rendering. Whenever measuring and rendering parameters are inconsistent, it can result in visual glitches such as the text taking up too much space or being clipped.
This change fixes these inconsistencies by setting `breakStrategy` and `hyphenat

Xcode really sucks, per some discussion on e1577df1fd and https://developer.apple.com/library/content/technotes/tn2215/_index.html, if you use the headers phase, and mark headers in your static library as public, they will actually end up in the final package that's built and you can't submit to the app store! This changes our xcode setup to use a copy files phase instead.
I've also changed the header include path to be $(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR)/include, which is added to the include path by Xcode by default, so 3rd party libraries should not be impacted by these changes anymore.

By default Android will put extra space above text to allow for upper-case accents or other ascenders. With some fonts, this can make text look slightly misaligned when centered vertically.
We have found that the effect is very noticeable with certain custom fonts on Android. On iOS the font aligns vertically as expected.
Android exposes a property `includeFontPadding` that will remove this extra padding if set to false. This PR exposes that to JS, and adds it to the documentation and UIExplorer.

This exposes iOS's spellCheckingType functionality to JavaScript. The native functionality is a three state enum. It gets exposed to JavaScript as a boolean. The initial value and JS null map to the third state.
An alternative design for this API would have been to expose a three state enum to JavaScript:
- "on" which maps to UITextSpellCheckingTypeYes
- "off" which maps to UITextSpellCheckingTypeNo
- "auto" (default) which maps to UITextSpellCheckingTypeDefault
For consistency, I decided to use the same API design as spellCheck. We don't have many options for fixing spellCheck in #11055 without introducing a breaking change.

To make React Native play nicely with our internal build infrastructure we need to properly namespace all of our header includes.
Where previously you could do `#import "RCTBridge.h"`, you must now write this as `#import <React/RCTBridge.h>`. If your xcode project still has a custom header include path, both variants will likely continue to work, but for new projects, we're defaulting the header include path to `$(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR)/usr/local/include`, where the React and CSSLayout targets will copy a subset of headers too. To make Xcode copy headers phase work properly, you may need to add React as an explicit dependency to your app's scheme and disable "parallelize build".

There's an inconsistency in autoCorrect's default state:
- If you don't specify a value for autoCorrect, it defaults to on.
- If you specify true/false for autoCorrect and later specify null, autoCorrect turns off. It should have reverted to its initial state of on.
The reason for this discrepancy is that autoCorrect is exposed to JS as a boolean but it is actually an enum with three states in native:
- UITextAutocorrectionTypeDefault (the default value)
- UITextAutocorrectionTypeYes
- UITextAutocorrectionTypeNo
This is fixed by explicitly mapping JS null to UITextAutocorrectionTypeDefault.

We had a classic integer underflow problem here. Before we would let you type endlessly when the text already exceeded the TextInput maxLength, now we only let you erase characters.
There is still a small problem with the TextInput: how do you handle when the value (set from JS) exceeds the maxLength? This could happen pragmatically, just by passing in a very large value or when changing maxLength (e.g. when changing from 4 to 3 digits in the case of a AMEX security code -> VISA security code).
Me and achen1 discussed firing onChange in these cases and truncating the number manually (to ensure JS's data model) was aware of the change but it seemed fraught with bugs and general weirdness in what the caller would expect to happen.

Include CSSLayout headers in the same way as other project headers, ie `#import <CSSLayout/CSSLayout.h>` becomes `#import "CSSLayout.h"`. CSSLayout is not a framework or system dependency, so shouldn't (AFAIK) be included with angle brackets. Doing so breaks framework builds, such as when RN is used as a pod in a swift project.
In combination with https://github.com/facebook/css-layout/pull/217 this fixes https://github.com/facebook/react-native/issues/9014 (specifically swift cocoapods projects). There is then no need for a separate CSSLayout pod subspec.
Tests run on the RN project in isolation (with changes inside `CSSLayout` itself also applied) and against a dummy swift project with RN included as a pod.
NB: This effectively reverts https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/9015 and may break non-swift cocoapods projects unless https://github.com/facebook/css-layout/pull/217 is merged and synced first.

This adds proper support for tracking a TextInput content size as discussed in #6552 by adding a new callback that is called every time the content size changes including when first rendering the view.
Some points that are up for discussion are what do we want to do with the onChange callback as I don't see any use left for it now that we can track text change in onChangeText and size changes in onContentSizeChange. Also a bit off topic but should we consider renaming onChangeText to onTextChange to keep the naming more consistent (see [this naming justification](https://twitter.com/notbrent/status/709445076850597888)).
This is split in 2 commits for easier review, one for iOS and one for android.
The iOS implementation simply checks if the content size has changed everytime we update it and fire the callback, the only small issue was that the content size had several different values on initial render so I added a check to not fire events before the layoutSubviews where at this point the value is g

This diff refactors the view update process into two stages:
1. The `reactSubviews` array is set, whose order matches the order of the JS components and shadowView components, as specified by the UIManager.
2. The `didUpdateReactSubviews` method is called, which actually inserts the reactSubviews into the view hierarchy.
This simplifies a lot of the hacks we had for special-case treatment of subviews: In many cases we don't want to actually insert `reactSubviews` into the parentView, and we had a bunch of component-specific solutions for that (typically overriding all of the reactSubviews methods to store views in an array). Now, we can simply override the `didUpdateReactSubviews` method for those views to do nothing, or do something different.

Summary:
RCTShadowText currently explicitly defaults to black text color:
https://github.com/facebook/react-native/blob/d46ac11/Libraries/Text/RCTShadowText.m#L204
However, the UITextView used by RCTTextInput doesn't explicitly default to black text color.
This causes issues when RCTTextInput is in rich text editing mode (i.e. when the <TextInput> element uses child <Text> nodes to provide extra styling info) and the client doesn't provide us with any explicit color info. In this case, the following series of badness occurs:
1. -[UITextView attributedText] will return an attributed string without the NSColor property set.
2. -[RCTShadowText attributedString] will return an attributed string with NSColor equal to blackColor.
3. The `[_textView.attributedText isEqualToAttributedString:_pendingAttributedText]` check in -performPendingTextUpdate will fail and causes -[UITextView setText:] to be called.
4. -setText: clears the marked text range in the text view, which breaks multi-character autocomplete (e.g. QWERTY input methods for CJK languages).
The easiest fix for now is to just make sure RCTUITextView and RCTShadowText default to the same text color.

This is an attempt to fix this problem by moving the logic to fire the event to the method that updates the content size. This way we can guarantee that anytime the content size changes we'll trigger the JS event.
The downside of this approach is that it's possible that multiple events get fired for a single character change. As per the comment that was removed, this was already happening when adding a character that when rendered, would increase the content size. By moving the code to the new place, this can happen more often (twice per character tapped). Let me know if you think this is an issue.
I don't know this code much, so please be careful reviewing. I'm happy to add more test cases I may have missed to the test plan :).

Summary:This fixes autocomplete for CJK text input by making sure that the `<Text>` nodes that JS controls to produce attributed text matches the text view's attributed text as much as possible. This is done by giving the disconnected `<Text>` child the same style as the `<TextInput>` parent.
This works because `-[RKTextView performPendingTextUpdate]` avoids setting the attributedText property on textView if the JS attributedText and textView attributedText are equal. This is important because setting attributedText on a text view clears the autocomplete state (markedText property) on a text view, breaking autocomplete for multistage input styles like CJK with a phonetic keyboard.

Summary:**Motivation**
Multiple instances of `Text` inside a `ListView` is a bad idea for the performance of the app.
When you create 1000 elements and you scroll through the list it is really slow and laggy because the `NSTextStorage`, which is the backbone of the `RCTText` element, will set more than 1,000 times and also the method `setNeedsDisplay` is called multiple times. This will causes huge memory problems and the app crashes.
With this commit I check in `RCTText` if the `NSTextStorage` differs from the old value. If yes then set it otherwise don't set the `NSTextStorage`. This will prevent to call `setNeedsDisplay` when not really needed.

This diff adds support for auto-resizing multiline text fields. This has been a long-requested feature, with several native solutions having been proposed (see https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/1229 and D2846915).
Rather than making this a feature of the native component, this diff simply exposes some extra information in the `onChange` event that makes it easy to implement this in pure JS code. I think this is preferable, since it's simpler, works cross-platform, and avoids any controversy about what the API should look like, or how the props should be named. It also makes it easier to implement custom min/max-height logic.

React Native currently exposes the iOS layer shadow properties more-or-less directly, however there are a number of problems with this:
1) Performance when using these properties is poor by default. That's because iOS calculates the shadow by getting the exact pixel mask of the view, including any tranlucent content, and all of its subviews, which is very CPU and GPU-intensive.
2) The iOS shadow properties do not match the syntax or semantics of the CSS box-shadow standard, and are unlikely to be possible to implement on Android.
3) We don't expose the `layer.shadowPath` property, which is crucial to getting good performance out of layer shadows.
This diff solves problem number 1) by implementing a default `shadowPath` that matches the view border for views with an opaque background. This improves the performance of shadows by optimizing for the common usage case. I've also reinstated background color propagation for views which have shadow props - this should help ensure that this best-case scenario occurs more often.
For views with an explicit transparent background, the shadow will continue to work as it did before ( `shadowPath` will be left unset, and the shadow will be derived exactly from the pixels of the view and its subviews). This is the worst-case path for performance, however, so you should avoid it unless absolutely necessary. **Support for this may be disabled by default in future, or dropped altogether.**
For translucent images, it is suggested that you bake the shadow into the image itself, or use another mechanism to pre-generate the shadow. For text shadows, you should use the textShadow properties, which work cross-platform and have much better performance.
Problem number 2) will be solved in a future diff, possibly by renaming the iOS shadowXXX properties to boxShadowXXX, and changing the syntax and semantics to match the CSS standards.
Problem number 3) is now mostly moot, since we generate the shadowPath automatically. In future, we may provide an iOS-specific prop to set the path explicitly if there's a demand for more precise control of the shadow.

Blending semitransparent pixels against their background is fairly a fairly expensive operation on mobile GPUs. To reduce blending, React Native has a system called "background color propagation", where the background color of parent views is automatically inherited by child views unless explicitly overridden. This means that translucent pixels can be blended directly against a known background color, avoiding the need to do this dynamically on the GPU.
In practice, this is only useful for views that do their own drawing, which is basically just `<Image/>` and `<Text/>` components, and for image components it only really matters when the image has an alpha component.
The automatic background propagation is a bit of a hack, and often does the wrong thing - for example if a view overflows its bounds, or if it overlaps a sibling, the background color will often be incorrect and need to be manually disabled. Because the only place that it provides a significant performance benefit is for text, this diff disables the behavior for everything except `<Text/>` nodes. It might still be useful for `<Image/>` nodes too, but looking through the examples in UIExplorer, the number of places where it does the wrong thing for images outnumbers the cases where it provides significant reduction in blending.
Note that this diff does not prevent you from eliminating blending on image components by manually setting an opaque background color, nor does it stop you from disabling color propagation on text components by manually setting a transparent background.

This diff makes the binding lazy, so that the main handlers are only bound if there is a valid touch action configured (e.g. onPress), and the Touchable mixin functions are only bound the first time the node is actually touched and becomes the responder.

This diff implements inline image support for <Text> nodes. Images are specified using <Image> tags, however all properties of the image are currently ignored apart from the source (including width/height styles).
Images are loaded asyncronously, and will trigger a text re-layout when they have loaded.

Summary:
Now that UITextViews have a delegate, they consume the "tap to scroll to top" gesture. This diff restores the original behavior of letting the top-level scroll view (if any) scroll to top instead.
I tried exposing scrollsToTop as a prop and was semi-successful in that I could turn scroll-to-top on and off for the top-level scroll view scroll, but the text view itself would never scroll to top. So instead of exposing it as a prop, this diff sets scrollsToTop always to NO, which is how TextInput behaved previously.

Summary:
With a multiline TextInput, the text is initially rendered correctly but once you try to edit it, the cursor slides off the top of the view and out of its bounds. Also if the TextInput is scrollable, you can scroll the text out of the bounds of the view, which looks buggy unless you clip the overflow. This occurs because the top content inset is applied to the RCTTextView instead of the UITextView's text container.
This diff fixes both bugs by applying the vertical insets to the UITextView's textContainerInset instead of the RCTTextView's frame (which is a wrapper around a real UITextView).
The left inset is still applied to the frame because there is a bug with the text rendering when the left textContainerInset is negative: the initial text doesn't show up until you focus the text view. The bug doesn't occur when setting the right textContainerInset, so I apply this workaround to only the left inset.

Summary:
Our events all follow a common pattern, so there's no good reason why the configuration should be so verbose. This diff eliminates that redundancy, and gives us the freedom to simplify the underlying mechanism in future without further churning the call sites.
Summary:
Dynamic Text Sizes for Text component.
Text gains new prop - allowFontScaling (false by default).
There is also AccessibilityManager module that allows you to tune multipliers per each content size category.
Summary:
Previously the text highlight overlay did not take padding into account in its positioning, so it would be misaligned for padded text. This fixes that.
Summary:
This diff implements highlighting of tapped text subranges for the iOS `<Text>` component, styled to match how iOS webkit views highlight links (translucent grey overlay with rounded corners).
Highlighting is enabled by default for any `<Text>` component which has an onPress handler. To disable the highlight, add `suppressHighlighting={true}` to the component props.
Summary:
This introduces event counts to make sure JS doesn't set out of date values on
native text inputs, which can cause dropped characters and can mess with
autocomplete, and obviates the need for the input buffering which added lag and
complexity to the component. Made sure to test simulated super-slow JS text
event processing to make sure characters aren't dropped, as well as typing
obviously correctable words and making sure autocomplete works as expected.
TextInput is now a controlled input by default without causing any issues for
most cases, so I removed the `controlled` prop.
Fixes selection state jumping by restoring it after setting new text values, so
highlighting the middle of some text in the new ReWrite example and hitting
space will replace that selection with an underscore and keep the cursor at a
sensible position as expected, instead of jumping to the end.
Ads `maxLength` prop to support the most commonly needed syncronous behavior:
preventing the user from typing too many characters. It can also be used to
prevent users from continuing to type after entering special characters by
changing it to the current length after a regex match. Made sure to verify it
works well with pasted input (including in the middle of existing text),
truncating it and collapsing the selection the same way it does on the web.
Fixes bug in TextEventsExample where it wouldn't show the submit and end events,
even though there were firing correctly.

This could potentially break some apps so please test carefully.

Summary:
Remove layout-only views. Works by checking properties against a list of known properties that only affect layout. The `RCTShadowView` hierarchy still has a 1:1 correlation with the JS nodes.
This works by adjusting the tags and indices in `manageChildren`. For example, if JS told us to insert tag 1 at index 0 and tag 1 is layout-only with children whose tags are 2 and 3, we adjust it so we insert tags 2 and 3 at indices 0 and 1. This keeps changes out of `RCTView` and `RCTScrollView`. In order to simplify this logic, view moves are now processed as view removals followed by additions. A move from index 0 to 1 is recorded as a removal of view at indices 0 and 1 and an insertion of tags 1 and 2 at indices 0 and 1. Of course, the remaining indices have to be offset to take account for this.
The `collapsible` attribute is a bit of a hack to force `RCTScrollView` to always have one child. This was easier than rethinking out the logic there, but we could change this later.

Test Plan: There are tests in `RCTUIManagerTests.m` that test the tag- and index-manipulation logic works. There are various scenarios including add-only, remove-only, and move. In addition, two scenario tests verify that the optimization works by checking the number of views and shadow views after various situations happen.

I've increased the warning levels in the OSS frameworks, which caught a bunch of minor issues. I also fixed some new errors in Xcode 7 relating to designated initializers and TLS security.
Test Plan:
* Test the sample apps and make sure they still work.
* Run tests.

setFrame:forRootView: wasn't triggering a batch update, which is required to trigger text update. This meant text wasn't re-displayed after a rotate, only after a touch.
I also found a bug that meant we weren't caching textStorage as much as we could be. Fixed that too.
Test Plan:
* Test <Text> example in UIExplorer and ensure it lays out on rotate.
* Test <Timers> example and verify text is still updating
* Products shouldn't be affected as they have separate text implementation

This fixes an issue with the containerBackgroundColor property of `<Text>` nodes, where containerBackgroundColor was being overridden by the backgroundColor. I also fixed up the example so that it demonstrates the feature more clearly.
Test Plan:
* Check UIExplorer text example
* Run Catalyst snapshot tests and check MAdMan, Groups
Summary:
ActivityIndicator was forwarding all of its props except `style` to the inner native view. This meant that onLayout would report a zero-sized frame that was relative to the wrapper view instead of the parent of the ActivityIndicator.
This diff adds `onLayout` to the wrapper view instead of the native view.
In general, all components that forward props need to be audited in this manner.

Test Plan: `<ActivityIndicator onLayout={...} />` reports the size of the spinner plus a position relative to its parent view.
Summary:
Some of the RCTTextView properties weren't set up correctly which would cause bugs when you'd set a property and then unset it, trying to revert to the default. This requires reading the default value from the dummy view instance, but some of these properties didn't have getters which was causing issues.

{D1953613} added an optimization that allowed for shadow nodes that are not
backed by views, but didn't actually work robustly in the remove case because
the indices can get out of sync. That diff also started returning nil for raw
text nodes, which triggered this bug and broke "see more" functionality in the
`FBTextWithEntities` and `ExpandingText` components, leading to crashes in the
Groups app.
This diff fixes the issue by simply returning `UIView` placeholders again.
Slight perf/ memory cost but no more crashes and there should be no other
adverse affects.
We'll need to think up something more clever in order to properly support `nil`
views in the future, probably something that uses the shadow hierarchy to build
the View hierarchy, rather than mirroring identical commands to both - see
#1102.
Test Plan:
- TextUpdateTest fails without native changes, now passes with them.
- ExpandingText example no longer crashes.
- See More in Groups app no longer crashes.
Summary:
@nicklockwood - Could I get a review of this?
Just took `RCTTextField` and ported it from `UITextField` to `UITextView` as you mentioned in another discussion, and removed any `UITextField` specific attributes.
- How do you think this should behave when there are subviews?
- Do you know how we can respond to the `UIControlEventEditingDidEndOnExit` event to respond to submit? Because `UITextView` isn't a `UIControl` we can't just use `addTarget` with `UIControlEventEditingDidEndOnExit`.
- Any other feedback?
Still going to look over the `UITextView` docs in more detail and make sure we expose all important options, and add it to the UIExplorer example, just putting this out here for feedback.

Summary:
Fixes#979.
Previously, a Text whose width is determined automatically (as opposed to set by a container) would position the text incorrectly after an update to the text *if* the text's width did not change (i.e., when changing only digits in a font with tabular numbers).
Every time RCTShadowText's RCTMeasure runs, it sets the text container's size to be the maximum allowed size for the text. When RCTText's drawRect is called later, it relied on layoutSubviews having been called to set the text container's size back to the proper width. But if RCTMeasure returned the same dimensions as last time, then RCTText's frame wasn't reset and so layoutSubviews was never re-called. With this change, we set the textContainer's size each time we draw the text.
We could also fix this by using a different NSTextContainer instance in RCTMeasure. Not sure what the pros and cons of that are.
