Emil Sjolander 4d69f4b2d1 Add display:none support to react native
Summary:
This diff adds display:none support to React Native. This enables hiding components which still calling their render method and keeping them within the state of your application. This enables preserving state in a component even though the component is not visible. Previously this was often implemented by rendering a component off screen as a work around. See below playground for usage.

```
class Playground extends React.Component {
  render() {
    return (
      <View style={{width: '100%', height: '100%', flexDirection: 'row', backgroundColor: 'white'}}>
        <View style={{width: 100, height: 100, display: 'none', backgroundColor: 'red'}}/>
        <View style={{width: 100, height: 100, backgroundColor: 'blue'}}/>
      </View>
    );
  }
}
rh389 9d6d8a24eb RCTConvert: Deprecated NSStringArray typedef
Summary:
Eliminates a build warning related to the use of the deprecated `NSStringArray` typedef.
This fix was more complex than I'd anticipated because `NSStringArray` was also being used as part of a macro-generated selector name, and in two different ways for debug/release. I've added a macro which allows the selector name to be specified explicitly, thus generally allowing for converters which return arrays of templated types.
There's an argument for ditching `RCT_JSON_ARRAY_CONVERTER` in favour of `RCT_JSON_ARRAY_CONVERTER_NAMED` as they're both private, but `RCT_ARRAY_CONVERTER` is in the public API so we'd at least need to retain that. There are also arguments for ditching the use of the macro for the nested array case(s) - since afaik this is the only one at the moment. Feedback appreciated :)
Tested with the `UIExplorer` unit tests and by diffing the preprocessor output of `RCTConvert.m` in both release and debug configs, verifying that they're identical apart from that `NSStringArray` is replaced by
Peter Salanki 52d8851fc8 Cache policy control for image source
Summary:
In the context of an app an image exists in three resolutions on the server: `thumb` (30px) `feed` (300px) `full` (900px). When looking at an individual item a user can come either from the feed, via a permalink or from other parts of the app. This allows a situation where the `feed` image might or might not already be loaded somewhere in the app. In the detail view I want to render `thumb` with a blur (to quickly display something), then the `feed` image if it exists to have something decent to display until `full` loads. However it is quite a waste to load the `feed` image if it isn't already in cache, and will slow down the time until `full` is loaded. It is possible to track the navigation from feed->detail and that the `feed` image has actually completed loading by the feed component however as component hierarchies grow this turns into quite a lot of prop passing and bad separation of concerns.
Pieter De Baets e1577df1fd Move all header imports to "<React/..>"
Summary:
To make React Native play nicely with our internal build infrastructure we need to properly namespace all of our header includes.
Where previously you could do `#import "RCTBridge.h"`, you must now write this as `#import <React/RCTBridge.h>`. If your xcode project still has a custom header include path, both variants will likely continue to work, but for new projects, we're defaulting the header include path to `$(BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR)/usr/local/include`, where the React and CSSLayout targets will copy a subset of headers too. To make Xcode copy headers phase work properly, you may need to add React as an explicit dependency to your app's scheme and disable "parallelize build".
Emil Sjolander 0a9b6bedb3 BREAKING - Fix unconstraint sizing in main axis
Summary:
This fixes measuring of items in the main axis of a container. Previously items were in a lot of cases measured with UNSPECIFIED instead of AT_MOST. This was to support scrolling containers. The correct way to handle scrolling containers is to instead provide them with their own overflow value to activate this behavior. This is also similar to how the web works.
This is a breaking change. Most of your layouts will continue to function as before however some of them might not. Typically this is due to having a `flex: 1` style where it is currently a no-op due to being measured with an undefined size but after this change it may collapse your component to take zero size due to the implicit `flexBasis: 0` now being correctly treated. Removing the bad `flex: 1` style or changing it to `flexGrow: 1` should solve most if not all layout issues your see after this diff.
Emil Sjolander a6e1e33a50 Reverted commit D3855801
Summary: Introduce `overflow:scroll` so that scrolling can be implemented without the current overflow:visible hackiness. Currently we use AT_MOST to measure in the cross axis but not in the main axis. This was done to enable scrolling containers where children are not constraint in the main axis by their parent. This caused problems for non-scrolling containers though as it meant that their children cannot be measured correctly in the main axis. Introducing `overflow:scroll` fixes this.
Summary:
When you call `-[RCTConvert UIFont:withFamily:...]` with a non-nil font object, we'll try to use the existing font object for system information. On iOS9+ which uses the San Francisco font, `[UIFont fontNamesForFamilyName:]` doesn't return anything useful, so we need to make sure that we detect this as a system font and use the appropriate methods. This issues is made worse by the fact that RCTTextView and friends recreate the font property for every attribute that is set (pretty horrible perf-wise).
Summary:
As per https://twitter.com/olebegemann/status/738656134731599872, our use of "main thread" to mean "main queue" seems to be unsafe.
This diff replaces the `NSThread.isMainQueue` checks with dispatch_get_specific(), which is the recommended approach.
I've also replaced all use of "MainThread" terminology with "MainQueue", and taken the opportunity to deprecate the "sync" param of `RCTExecuteOnMainThread()`, which, while we do still use it in a few places, is incredibly unsafe and shouldn't be encouraged.
aleclarsoniv 64a09feaf7 Add 'props.lineBreakMode' to Text
Summary:I've tested this manually, but I'm not sure how to write a test for this. Hopefully someone can help out there. The least I could do is provide a starting point for a PR to be accepted.
Additionally, I've renamed the existing `NSLineBreakMode` enum converter (inside `RCTConvert`) to use dashes in the names instead of camelcase (eg: `word-wrapping` instead of `wordWrapping`).
Nick Lockwood 46106f756a Ported `source` prop over to iOS WebView
Summary:
public
https://github.com/facebook/react-native/pull/5494 added a new `source` property to WebView on Android that provides a better API, as well as allowing for request headers to be set.
This diff ports that functionality over to iOS, so we can have a consistent API cross-platform.
I've also extended the API to include `method` (GET or POST) and `body` when setting the WebView content with a URI, and `baseUrl` when setting static HTML.
Ryan Gomba 4472bb54c9 Use font name for weight if no weight property available
Summary:
Some custom fonts don't return a UIFontWeightTrait that is representative of their actual weight. For example, "AktivGrotesk-Light" and "AktivGrotesk-Medium" both return UIFontWeightTrait 0. While this is of course an issue with the font files themselves, licensing issues can make it difficult to modify them directly. When using these fonts, specifying weights in JS has no effect. I propose that if no weight information is available, we inspect the name of the font for weighting.
Nick Lockwood 88ac40666c Replaced RegExp method parser with recursive descent
Summary:
public
This diff replaces the RegEx module method parser with a handwritten recursive descent parser that's faster and easier to maintain.
The new parser is ~8 times faster when tested on the UIManager.managerChildren() method, and uses ~1/10 as much RAM.
The new parser also supports lightweight generics, and is more tolerant of white space.
(This means that you now can – and should – use types like `NSArray<NSString *> *` for your exported properties and method arguments, instead of `NSStringArray`).
Nick Lockwood b672294858 Added RCTImageSource
Summary:
public
The +[RCTConvert UIImage:] function, while convenient, is inherently limited by being synchronous, which means that it cannot be used to load remote images, and may not be efficient for local images either. It's also unable to access the bridge, which means that it cannot take advantage of the modular image-loading pipeline.
This diff introduces a new RCTImageSource class which can be used to pass image source objects over the bridge and defer loading until later.
I've also added automatic application of the `resolveAssetSource()` function based on prop type, and fixed up the image logic in NavigatorIOS and TabBarIOS.
Nick Lockwood 0fe074acbd Removed all calls to [UIImage imageWithData:] on a background thread
Summary: public
I had previously assumed (based on past experience and common wisdom) that `[UIImage imageWithData:]` was safe to call concurrently and/or off the main thread, but it seems that may not be the case (see https://github.com/AFNetworking/AFNetworking/pull/2815).
This diff replaces `[UIImage imageWithData:]` with ImageIO-based decoding wherever possible, and ensures that it is called on the main thread wherever that's not possible/convenient.
I've also serialized access to the `NSURLCache` inside `RCTImageLoader`, which was causing a separate-but-similar crash when loading images.
Nick Lockwood 799168929c Unify XCAsset handling logic
Summary: @public
This diff unifies the logic for detecting when images refer to XCAsset files into a single function (RCTXCAssetNameForURL) and uses it for both +[RCTConvert UIImage:] and RCTImageLoader.
I've also tightened the definition of XCAssets so that it only applies to images inside .car files, not any image inside the main bundle. This avoids using the +[UIImage imageNamed:] when not strictly necessary, which is desirable since that method is not thread-safe, and has undocumented caching behavior that is difficult to reason about.
