Fix memory leak in tests
...
- Stop leaking tickers. As the docs state, using time.Tick() will leak tickers,
so use time.NewTicker() with time.Ticker.Stop().
- Be more efficient by using time.NewTimer() with time.Timer.Stop() instead of time.After().
