fix(slotqueue): simplify slot queue workers (#1224) ...

* fix(slotqueue): simplify slot queue workers

- worker is now just an async running loop
- instead of passing a "done" Future, use an
  AsyncEvent to signal completion

* chore(slotqueue): address review comments
